De ce se scumpesc trandafirii de Valentine’s Day?

Într-o lume a cererii și ofertei nu este nici o surpriză faptul că trandafirii costă mai mult în perioada apropiată Zilei Îndrăgostiților decât în alte perioade ale anului. 14 februarie este vârful cererii de trandafiri la nivel mondial, iar realitatea ”neromantică” este că prețurile en-gros sunt duble în comparație cu cele din perioada Crăciunului.

Se estimează că anul trecut s-au vândut aproximativ 200 de milioane de trandafiri într-o singură zi, pe 14 februarie, de Valentine’s Day. Cei mai mulți dintre cei care au cumpărat acești trandafiri au știut puține lucruri despre ce a însemnat creșterea, recoltarea, transportul și depozitarea trandafirilor. Ei au văzut doar că, în apropierea sărbătorii, prețurile au crescut destul de mult față de alte perioade ale anului.

Pentru că este o sărbătoare în care cel mai căutat cadou este trandafirul roșu, toată producția și logistica trebuie foarte bine pusă la punct și pregătirile încep chiar și cu 6 luni înainte.

De pe câmpurile și serele fermierilor și până la momentul în care trandafirii ajung frumos aranjați în buchete la cei dragi, toată lumea crește prețurile. Din această cauză acesta este momentul de vârf al prețurilor trandafirilor. Iată cum se întâmplă:

Cultivatorii utilizează munca manuală

Pentru a avea vârful producției de Ziua Îndrăgostiților, fermierii încetinesc creșterea florilor încă dinaintea Crăciunului, asigurându-se că florile sunt mature după 1 februarie. Apoi fermierii au nevoie de forță de muncă suplimentară pentru recoltare, deoarece trandafirii sunt tăiați și prelucrați manual. Acest lucru necesită muncă temporară pentru a ajuta angajații permanenți să recolteze, proceseze și să ambaleze un volum de trei ori mai mare decât volumul normal de trandafiri.

Costurile pierderilor de pe timpul în care producția a fost încetinită, cât și costurile cu angajații suplimentari vor fi trecute în prețul cu care pleacă trandafirul din fermă.

Cresc costurile de transport

Fie că trandafirii vin cu avionul din Columbia, Ecuador și Kenya sau cu tir-ul din Olanda, înaintea zilei de 14 februarie volumele transportate cresc considerabil.
Sunt necesare mai multe zboruri din America de Sud sau Africa, iar costurile de transport cresc pentru că numărul de avioane trebuie suplimentat. Apoi, numărul camioanelor pe care importatorii trebuie să închirieze pentru transportul trandafirilor către depozite  crește, de asemenea.

În plus, sunt necesare mai multe autovehicule și mai mulți șoferi pentru a face livrările în ziua respectivă.

Costul suplimetar de transport va fi trecut și el în prețul pe care îl plătește cumpărătorul final. Cât de mare este acesta este greu de spus, deoarece fiecare angrosist și fiecare florărie are costurile sale care variază în funcție de mărimea companiei și cheltuielile de regie.

Crește cererea

Bărbații cumpără în mod tradițional o buchete cu trandafiri roșii. Acest lucru nu s-a schimbat de-a lungul anilor și pare că știu și de ce. Un sondaj recent arată că femeile preferă în continuare trandafirii roșii, dar nu în proporții atât de mari ca până în urmă cu câțiva ani. Un alt motiv este simbolistica trandafirului roșu. Toată lumea știe că acesta simbolizează iubirea adevărată.

Pentru a beneficia de un preț mai bun ar trebui să comandați din timp, cu cât mai devreme cu atât mai bine. În acest mod vă veți asigura și prețuri mai mici decât de Valentine’s day dar îi veți ajuta și pe floriști să se poată organiza mai bine în ziua respectivă.

Mind as a storyteller

I’ve enrolled this November into “The Mind is Flat” course organised by FutureLearn, a private education company owned by The Open University UK (OU).

Now I must mention the fact that I love Open University. I first signed up with them on a physics course in 2010, and I have been doing courses annually with them ever since. At least in physics and math, the OU course books are the only books that made it possible for me to understand the subject of study; this year, I studied Quantum Mechanics, and it fulfilled a very old dream of mine to understand and work with the Schrödinger Equation.

Summoning and listening to life

It happens even today in West Africa, in the nation of Burkina Faso. Here there is a tribe called the Dagara and they believe every mother dreams her child into being.

For the Dagara, the life of a child doesn’t begin the day they are born. Nor does it begin just after conception. Instead a child is “born” the day it first becomes a thought in the mind of its mother. Once a woman feels it’s time for her to have a child, she walks off by herself and finds a tree. Under its shade, she sits and waits, until she hears the song of her child. Soon as she’s heard it, she returns to her village and finds the man who will be the father of the child. She teaches him the song. And while they make love, together, they sing their child’s song, inviting it into this world.

After the woman becomes pregnant, the mother teaches her child’s song to all the other women of the village. On the day her child pushes out of her womb, all the women gather together and sing the child’s song, welcoming it into this world. As it grows up, whenever the child gets hurt, any villager can comfort the child by singing their song to them since each member of the tribe knows everyone’s song. Later, when the child is older and has done something worthy of praise, the tribe will sing the child’s song to him or her. And when they’re ready to undergo the rites of puberty, the tribe will gather and sing the child’s song. When a child becomes an adult, and they get married, the bride and groom’s songs are sung together as a way of linking their lives. Finally, at the end of their life, as the child prepares to die, the tribe gathers and sings the child’s song to him or her, for the last time.

It is also customary for pregnant women to go through a hearing ritual. The purpose of this hearing ritual is to listen to the incoming baby; to find out who it is; why it’s coming at this time; what it’s purpose is; what it likes or dislikes; and what the living can do to prepare space for this person. The child’s name is then given based on that information. Four weeks after the birth the naming for a baby girl takes place, and three weeks after the birth, a baby boy is named. In the Dagara tradition, you own your name up until the age of five. After the age of five, your name owns you. Your name is an energy; your name has a life force. It creates an umbrella under which you live. That is why it is important to hear the child before they giving him or her the name, because the name must match the purpose.

It is a very interesting tradition that goes in line with some of the writings of the Romanian author Scarlat Demetrescu, who in his 1944 book “On the secrets of Life and Universe” describes that when a spirit decides to come to physical life, as it descends to the inferior planes into the material, an astral music accompanies it to give it hope and courage. Maybe the Dagar young women are listening to this astral music.

Is your life like a tango?

Tango is about independence and bonding, about one step after the other, about living the moment, about passion and creativity, about love and… no, not hate,  just love.

Tango is free of rules. You can pick you next move yourself and be creative with the next one. Tango is about now, this moment. Is about here. It’s about partners connecting and living in the present. It’s about knowing when to get close and when to let go of each other.

It’s about trust, about looking in the eyes and understanding what’s going to be next. Speechless communication. How much no words can tell. It’s about feelings. It’s about expressing yourself and letting your partner express himself too, but each one adapting harmoniously with the other.

In tango the man must subtle lead his partner merely by intention. He is the one that sees the dance floor and thus has the responsibility on him. He has to put the light on the woman. To make her follow him freely. Than the woman will use her intuition and will feel his next move more accurately. As she is taken into the dance and cannot see, she must make use of the other senses. For a woman tango calls for patience, acceptance, feeling and synchronicity.

Isn’t this tango the way relationships should be? Or life?
